Christmas tree recycling in central Illinois

With Christmas being over it's time to do something with your Christmas tree.

If you need a place to drop off a tree, the Tazewell County Health Department can help you out for free.

You have until January 9.

The department says it does to help save space in landfills. They ask that all ornaments and tinsel are removed from the tree.

"According to our estimate from the service provider that recycles the trees, he estimates that around 250 trees were diverted from the landfill," says Rob Martin who is the Waste Diversion coordinator for Tazewell County.

There are drop-off sites all over Tazewell County:

  • Armington- across from Village Hall
  • Creve Coeur- Village Hall, 101 N. Thorncrest
  • East Peoria- ICC East Campus, near truck driver's training area
  • Hopedale- behind Village Hall
  • Mackinaw- 605 S. Orchard (behind recycle bins)
  • Minier- near recycle bin at Park & Pennsylvania
  • Morton- Freedom Hall, 349 W. Birchwood
  • Tremont- Leaf pile, adjacent to City Park
  • Washington- 815 Lincoln, near maintenance
  • For Pekin residents only- City will pick up trees at the curb for the first two weeks of January.
