Church community mourns U.S. marshal killed on duty

PEORIA - The Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria community is coming together to honor the life of U.S. Marshal Chase White.

White, who was 41, was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Tuscon, Arizona Thursday while serving an arrest warrant. He worked for the Marshals service since 2015.

According to the Associated Press, the arrest warrant was against a man, suspect Ryan Phillip Schlesinger, who was accused of stalking a female police sergeant after she seized a handgun and ammunition from him in 2017.

White is the son of Rev. Lynnda White, a minister with the Universalist Unitarian Church. He was married and had four children.

The Marshals Service said White was also an Air Force reservist who was preparing for deployment.

White was shot Thursday night and later died at a hospital.
