A local volunteer is helping pups lend a paw to people in need.
Paws 4 Healing is an animal assisted therapy program where dogs visit patients room’s to make feel better.
The program began in 2009. A couple years later, Laura Logan, with the help of volunteers, took over paws for healing because she says she could see the difference it was making.
“They stimulate them emotionally physically and mentally, I mean there is just so many, you walk into a room and they are smiling, no matter what their problem is they forget for just a little while and its just extremely gratifying,” Logan said.
She said the program could possibly help with the nationwide crisis on how to handle pain control. And American Red Cross has taken note; Paws 4 Healing has been recognized with the Good Citizen Award for their efforts in healing.
“It just means a lot for us to be honored for that and respected for that,” she said.
