Cirque du Soleil: Crystal skates its way to River City

Local News

PEORIA, Ill. — “Cirque du Soleil: Crystal” opens Wednesday at the Peoria Civic Center.

“Crystal” is not just an ice show, it’s the very first experience on ice from Cirque du Soleil. Families will have the opportunity to see world-class ice skaters and acrobats as they challenge the laws of gravity.
And after seven years, performers are excited to be bringing the circus back to central Illinois.

“It’s always exciting to go to places we’ve never been before,” “Crystal” publicist Julie Desmarais said. “The last time we were in Peoria was in 2012 with a show called ‘Dralion.’ So it’s really exciting to come back to a city and bring Cirque du Soleil closer to cities that can’t experience our big top shows because they are a little bit too far.”

This time, they’re pulling out all the stops. From wig creators, to costume designers, chefs, a baker and around 2,000d different costume pieces, nothing goes unnoticed.

Tune in Thursday morning to get an insider’s perspective on what a typical day is like for a performer.
