EUREKA, Ill. — A new facility will be open to the public in Eureka soon.
This building will house both city hall and the Eureka Police Department.
The mayor, Scott Zimmer said the current buildings need a lot of repairs.
The city council conducted a need assessment and discovered that it would be more cost-effective to build an entirely new building rather than make improvements to the old.
Zimmer said this won’t cost neighbors anything. The city is using funding from their savings account and not from taxpayers.
“Everybody’s been real excited of course, there have been different opinions on the design and the way it’s situated and the placement and such, but overall I think everyone is looking forward to having a new building to call home,” Zimmer said.
Zimmer said the equipment will be moved in to start the building process this month and that the building will be open by early next year.
