City leaders working to revitalize three neighborhoods in Peoria

Local News

PEORIA, Ill., — Peoria city leaders met with neighbors to create a plan for beautifying the community.

The city of Peoria entered into a partnership with the Illinois Housing Development Authority to help revitalize three neighborhoods.

Those include the Near Southside, Near Northside and East Bluff.
IHDA and the city recognize that affordable housing is critical to the success of the community.

This is one issue several neighbors talked about at the meeting tonight.

“The community will have input, that way they can buy into it 100 percent and the city as well because they will see the interest of the community and the city coming together for the greater good of the community,” NAACP president Marvin Hightower said.

City officials say they look forward to receiving more of your input.

I think any policy decisions that the city council makes need to occur after we get public input from the people that actually live in the areas and the neighborhoods that we are making policy about. So it’s very important to have the residents input on what we should be doing moving forward to revitalize the Southside.

Councilwoman Elizabeth Jensen, Peoria City Council
