A town hall meeting was held tonight to discuss school and community safety.
Dozens showed up to the South Side Mission to hear speakers discuss ways police are working with schools to prepare educators in the event of an emergency and help students with safety concerns they may have on their way to school.
Organizers of the event say there are a few simple ways you can help keep kids safe in this upcoming school year.
Martha Ross is the Coordinator of the School Safety Coalition. She says, “You can do as little as coming outside you know to drink your coffee while kids walk to school in a community, or you know, helping on the playground or in the classroom or not necessarily in the classroom as much as in the hallways and in the lunch room, things like that.”
There were also 10 different vendors on site to provide information and employment.
