Normal town leaders approved the plan to build a Home2 Suites hotel on Bradford Lane.

Some members of the community welcomed the idea.
“With all of the sporting events and things I think it will do really good,” Jill Armstrong said. “I think it will get more events to come to town.”

Others don’t believe another hotel is necessary.

Sharon Rutledge, a Bloomington resident, also gave her input about the development plan.
“My thought would have been that we didn’t need anymore more hotels,” Rutledge said. “They just got the Marriott not that long ago and it’s beautiful and I just can’t imagine that we need another one.”

Still, many agree that Home2 Suites will contribute to Normal’s economic development.

“I think it would be economically beneficial for normal,” Armstrong said.

Anupam Radhakrishnan, another member of the Normal community, said he thinks it’s going to benefit the community in terms of revenue.
“I think it’s a good very very positive step in the right direction,” Radhakrishnan said.

Mayor Chris Koos doesn’t plan on offering developers any incentives to build, which could affect whether a hotel is built at all.
