PEORIA, Ill.– Peoria residents shared their opinions about the use and sale of recreational marijuana Monday night during a community forum with city council.
While most people at the meeting support legalizing marijuana, some neighbors have concerns.
“It is something that chemical alters your mental state and there can be negative repercussions of that. So we need to be prepared to deal with that,” Peoria Resident Samer Aldroubi said.
Though Aldroubi wants the city to take proper precautions, he says he’s looking at the bigger picture.
“I think its one of the things where the state did decide it will be legal so we need to figure out how that will look best for our community,” he said. ” We need to be cautious and proactive with regulations, but reap as much revenue to support the city.”
The city plans to vote in October. If approved, one medical cannabis dispensary will be able to sell recreational marijuana immediately.
You can share your opinion during the final forum 6 o’clock Monday at the Student Center on ICC’s Peoria campus.
