PEORIA COUNTY - Investigators are working to learn what led to a deadly accident south of Princeville.
The single car accident happened after 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. The Peoria County Sheriff's Department and Peoria County Coroner confirmed there was one occupant in the vehicle who died after being ejected.
Officers said they spoke with eyewitnesses who said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed before crashing into a utility pole and bursting into flames.
Lt. James Middlemas of the sheriff's department said accidents are common in the area.
"We certainly get our fair share out here," he said. "There's some rolling terrain out here that I think catches people off guard."
The driver's identity will be revealed pending family notification.
