EAST PEORIA – A local store is making it easier to shop for people with autism.

Costco will host a sensory-friendly shopping event on Friday. All visual displays will be taken down, and the warehouse will have minimal lighting.
The move hopes to accommodate people sensitive to light and sound, like those who fall on the autism spectrum.

“[It is] really helpful for stores to reduce the odors, reduce the sounds, reduce the distractions that make it really hard for children as well as adults,” said Jim Runyon of Easter Seals.

The event will take place Friday morning from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
