PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — UPDATE 10:40 a.m. — Five people are now displaced after a fire broke out in their home in Peoria.

The Peoria Fire Department responded to the home at 606 Green St. off of NE Perry Avenue just after 7 Monday morning.

The Peoria Fire Battalion Chief, Scott Strum said when crews arrived no one was inside the home and there are no injuries to report at this time.

There were 23 firefighters along with Ameren and The Red Cross on scene.

Strum said heavy smoke filled the second floor and they located the seat of the fire to the attic.

“When crews got here… baselines were up but they were having some difficulty with the fire due to the walls. We pulled everybody out, we retracted, regrouped and then reattacked the fire,” said Strum.

Strum also said the estimated damage sits at $60,000 and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
