Peoria Public Schools Policy Committee discusses cellphone pouches, bullying prevention

PEORIA, Ill.– Peoria Public Schools Policy Committee met Thursday to discuss several topics including new cellphone pouches and bullying prevention.

District 150 will be getting 160 cellphone pouches. The pouches will be used when students break their school’s cellphone policy. When they break the school’s policy students would have their phones locked in a pouch for the rest of the school day.

The Policy Committee also worked on updating their bullying policy. The State Board of Education requires a school district to update their bullying procedures once a year.

Board member Gregory Wilson hopes the district’s bullying policies encourage bullied students to come forward if they need help.

“The district does have a bullying policy that is currently in place that creates an environment where the student can speak to any adult in the building and from there, there are different steps that are taken to make sure the bullying ceases,” Wilson said.

The policy discussed at the meeting will be brought to the next school board meeting on Monday.
