A local state representative is holding a Holiday Diaper Drive from November 13 to December 11 to collect diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash cream for local families in need.
Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) says he felt compelled to lead this effort after hearing heartfelt testimony in the Human Services Appropriations Committee that families cannot afford diapers for their children.
Many people don’t realize that programs like WIC and SNAP do not pay for diapers, rash creams, or other infant supplies. Diapers are an essential and often overlooked need for families struggling financially around the holidays.
According to the National Diaper Bank Network, low-income families report a shortage of 50 diapers per month. According to TheNest.com, disposable brand-name diapers can cost about $750 to $1,000 in the first year alone.
Rep. Spain announced Friday he is holding the drive to address the insufficient supply of diapers to keep infants in need clean, dry, and healthy.
To contribute to the Holiday Diaper Drive you can drop off unopened packages of diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash cream to State Representative Ryan Spain’s Peoria District Office at Illinois Central College’s North Campus. The address is 5407 N. University St. Peoria, IL – Arbor Hall, Suite B.
The supplies will be donated to the area’s local food pantries and diaper pantries before the holidays.
