BLOOMINGTON, Ill- While school is out, it can be difficult for students to find all the nutrition they need on their own. So this summer, District 87 in Bloomington is bringing the food to them for free.
Every day, the school district is loading a van full of nutritious food and delivering it to four locations across the city. Anyone 18 and under can participate. Those sites include the following:
-Holton Homes (1404 W. Market, parking lot of Market & Hinshaw)
-Evergreen (1202 W. Seminary, parking lot)
-Second Presbyterian Church (313 N. East St., parking lot on Prairie St near garden)
-Wood Hill Family (103 E. MacArthur, parking lot near family homes)
Coordinators say the idea started last year, once they realized a growing need in the community. They’re hoping the trips create a bond between the district staff and their students.
The district also has stationary sites at Bent School, the Bloomington Boys and Girls Club, Irving School, Sheridan School, Stevenson School and the Bloomington Public Library.
