Donations to the Children’s Hospital of Illinois helps patients keep cool this summer

PEORIA, Ill. — Patients at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois will be able to beat the heat all summer long thanks to a “cool” donation.

Hy-Vee, The Jel Sert Company, and the American Childhood Cancer Organization teams up for the “Take a Pop, Share a Smile” program. They’re donating freezers and ice pops to hospitalized children throughout the Midwest, including here in Peoria.

It’s bringing joy to both patients and their families.

“We want to do something for those families because it is such a tough time,” said Elise Scheil, store director at Hy-Vee’s Sheridan Village Location. “Sometimes those ice pops are the only thing that they can have, or they’re looking forward to having, the only sweet treat, and hopefully that brings a smile to their face.”

To date, the program has donated more than a million treats for hospitalized kids.
