Once again, the Dream Center’s PROMise of Hope annual event is making high school girls’ dreams a reality.
They got to look through hundreds of dresses and shoes to complete their prom outfit for free.
“We’re really trying to help girls who cant afford to go to prom and make it a great and awesome experience for them,” said Sherri Ernst, The Dream Center, outreach ministry coordinator, “For a family struggling to get by with your day to day needs, it’s out of the question. So we want to build these girls up and let them know that yes we love you, we care about you.”
As the girls walked through the doors, they were assigned a personal shopper to help them pick the best outfit.
“They made me feel really good about myself telling me how good I would look good in my dress. Or they would say ‘you look really good in those shoes or ‘this suits you”,” said Annalecia Aeckler, East Peoria High School senior.
The Dream Center staff said one of their goals was to provide an affordable way for girls to go to prom.
“It saved me a whole lot of money. The prom dress I was originally looking at would probably have wiped out my bank account,” said Bridget Minor, East Peoria High Schoo senior.
All the dresses, shoes and accessories are donated by people who end up making a big difference in the lives of these young women.
“Some of the girls cry when they come out and they get their dress, they go on the red carpet, everybody cheers and claps and ut just cheers them on and they just feel beautiful,” said Ernst.
