Dunlap HS donating supplies to Texas elementary

DUNLAP, Il - Dunlap High School Student Body President Franny Verville , knew the Dunlap community had hearts of gold after raising more than $10,000 for a 2011 graduate, who teaches in Houston.  But Verville believed there was still more her fellow Eagles could do.

“The second phase we decided to do was a supply drive,” said Dunlap principal Scott Adreon. He added, “Our drive has surpassed our expectations, we initially wanted to fill a 52 foot band trailer and it looks like we may exceed that and need another.”

Donations of beds, personal care and cleaning supplies have been part of the team Dunlap initiative, and organizers are now asking for bug-spray, masks and fans.

“The donations quickly grew to a Peoria area proud project. Last night we had people from Chillicothe, to Princeville, to Morton  and Canton area bringing stuff over so it’s really turned into something bigger than just Dunlap,” said Adreon.

Adreon adds it's priceless to see students helping others in their time of need.

“It’s really making a big difference and I think that's appealing to our providers, that its going directly to the students in Houston at Garfield Elementary.”

The school will continue to accept donations until Wednesday at 5 pm, when their trailer will close up and head south. Dunlap High School will also have a pancake and sausage breakfast on September 16th to raise more money for those in need.
