MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. — The Ecology Action Center in McLean County is looking to help clean our environment and its leaders are asking for your help.
On September 7th, all McLean County residents are invited to participate in a one-day event where they can dispose of hazardous waste.
Hazardous waste’s are harmful materials such as household cleaners, yard care chemicals, paint, and more.
“These are things that are flammable, corrosive, explosive or otherwise toxic,” said EAC Director Michael Brown. “These things do not go into the trash, they don’t get dumped down the drain. Both of those can lead to the contamination of our water supplies or other unintended impacts.”
In an effort to regulate traffic flow this year, you must set up an appointment before driving to the drop off point at Rivian Automotive in Normal.
Also, leaders are asking for community members whether it be through volunteering the day of the event or by way of donation. The bi-annual event costs $35,000 to put on and currently the EAC has only collected $10,000.
