Early morning fire in Washington

A family in Washington is without a home after a fire early Thursday morning. It happened shortly before 4:45 a.m. at the 400 block of Peach Street.

East Peoria and Washington firefighters assisted the Northern Tazewell fire department battle the fully engulfed home. Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“We arrived at the fire and from there we did a defensive attack,” said Chief Kris Baker with the Northern Tazewell Fire District. He adds “We put water on the house and tried everything we could to put it out. After 20 minutes, the fire was out.”

The damage to the two room house is estimated between $50,000 and $60,000.
