Thanks to the newest drop-box installation residents throughout East Peoria now can conveniently and safely dispose of medications in a secure location. Accessible day or night at the East Peoria Public Safety building, you can give away expired, unwanted or unused medication to law enforcement.
Accepted for disposal will be tablets, pills, capsules and patches. Medications should be removed from their containers and placed in zipped plastic bags.
“If it sits around it could be a temptation,” said Lt. Kim Riggenbach with the East Peoria Fire Department. He adds, “The extra medication could be a problem for children, it’s important be able to get rid of any medications in a safe way.”
Needles, liquids and aerosols are not accepted. The box is monitored by cameras 24 hours.
