Families in East Peoria will have to find a new place to play next summer.
The Fon du lac Park District announced Tuesday it’s closing Splashdown Water Park. The district credits increased maintenance costs for replacing the filtration system. The water park was closed for a time in Summer 2017 because of filter issues.
The park will be closed for at least the next 12 months. The park has lost more than $400,000 in the last four years because of maintenance issues.
The district released the following statement Tuesday:
We do not fell it is in the best interest of the District or our taxpayers to continue to subsidize or operate this facility at such a loss. To continue to operate at this level would deplete our General Fund.
Over the next year, the Park District will look into outside sources for transferring ownership of the park or review options for demolition. It will also seek community input regarding the needs for a community pool.
