El Gordo Mexican Bakery is a new family-owned business in Peoria.
For Mexican families in the area, it helps them reminisce of life in their native country. For the rest of Peoria, it offers unique and traditional Mexican pastries.
The bread is made fresh every day and anything left over is donated to local churches. While it’s not the first Mexican bakery in the area, it is one that fulfilled a long term goal for the owner.
The bakery is located at 841 W Main St, Suite E in Peoria and is set to officially open March 6.
It will be open Monday-Saturay, 6 a.m – 8 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m – 5 p.m.
“I got here when I was 16 years old. This had always been my hope and dream. I started saving money over time and thanks to God I made it happen and now I have my own bakery,” said Jose Luis Reteguin, owner of El Gordo Mexican Bakery.
The owner of the bakery also said that if all goes well, he plans on opening a new location in the Bloomington in the upcoming year.
