Some local elementary school students are donating their hair to a good cause.

8 young girls and one mother participated in “Ponytails for a Purpose” at Ridgeview Elementary on Tuesday. Five Senses Spa, Salon and Barbershop cut a total of 74 inches, all to support children with hairloss.

“Because it started getting longer and I decided to put it to good use,” said Maria Pressler, a 4th Grader donating hair.

“I’m doing it because a lot of people don’t have any hair,” said Ella Scharfenberg, a 3rd Grader donating hair. “And I have a lot.

“I want all the people with cancer, or don’t have hair to think they’ll be loved with the hair,” said Mishaela Meneses, who also donated her hair.

“Children with HairLoss” is an organization that doesn’t charge for a child to receive a wig. They provide a custom, human hair replacement and care kit to over 300 children a year.
