‘Erratic and dangerous,’ Tazewell County man behind bars for aggressive driving

Local News

An aggressive driver who is accused of targeting random drivers in Central Illinois for months is now behind bars.

Several people in Creve Coeur and East Peoria filed complaints about James Mayernich’s driving.

“Very erratically and dangerously followed him,” said Dick Ganschow, East Peoria Police Chief. “Swerving to within a foot of his vehicle. Shined a flashlight in his eyes. Pulled his hand out and made the motion of a gun with his hand. Tried stopping in front of the vehicle and at one point even got out of his vehicle to try to confront the person.”

East Peoria law enforcement say a post on Facebook was ramping up with comments about Mayernich, but they couldn’t do anything until an actual police report was filed.

Law enforcement says so far into their investigation, there’s no rhyme or reason that prompted Mayernich to act this way.

Mayernich is currently in the Tazewell County jail on charges of reckless conduct.

He has $100,000 bond.
