EAST PEORIA, Ill. — An outdoor recreational area is one step closer to getting approved in East Peoria’s Levee Park.

The East Peoria City Council voted yes to support a grant application to the Illinois Department of Resources for this project. This $400,000 would go towards the development of a splash pad, fountain, and outdoor restrooms.

Ty Livingston, Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of East Peoria, said they expect to have the application down to IDNR in Springfield by the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday.

The community hopes these future plans can help boost East Peoria’s economy, but also be a centrally located place for families to enjoy.

The City of East Peoria hopes to break ground as early as next year.

Final decisions will come down to grants and money collected through private donation fundraising.
