PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — The recent stretch of nice weather is relief for many farmers working to get last minute planting done.

The latest Illinois crop progress report shows about 75% of the corn is now in the ground. Here in Peoria County, that number is closer to 90%. Peoria County Farm Bureau Manager, Patrick Kirchhofer says some farmers are using insurance to compensate for the rest.

“A portion of the corn acreage that was supposed to be planted, it will be taken as a prevent plant, under the insurance policy. But that’s just a small percentage, and farmers were able to get a majority of the corn crop planted,” said Patrick Kirchhofer, manager of Peoria County Farm Bureau.

The report also mentions, five days so far this month, had suitable conditions for farm work.
