February trial date set for Limestone teacher accused of sexually harassing student

PEORIA COUNTY - A jury trial date has been set for the Limestone Community High School teacher who was accused of inappropriately touching a female student.

Bartonville resident 59-year-old William Wood appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to the single count of aggravated battery he was charged with. His jury trial date has been set for Feb. 25, 2019.

He was indicted Nov. 13 for the Class 3 Felony for allegedly grasping former student Alex Menefee with his hand on public property in between Jan. 2-31, 2017.

Eighteen-year-old Menefee filed a lawsuit against Wood on Sept. 19. Menefee claimed Wood has a long-standing history of making advancements toward female students, and she alleges he groped her buttocks several times in January 2017.

Wood was placed on paid administrative leave after the lawsuit came to light.
