Local News

Peoria Fire Department is trying to figure out what caused a fire at the Villa Bordeaux Apartments.

The fire occurred around 4 AM Tuesday morning.

First responders were dispatched to a report of a second floor hall fire with three adults and a cat trapped in the balcony. Firefighters raised a ground ladder to the balcony to rescue the three adults, and one cat, while the other crews stretched a hand line to put the fire out in the hall.

The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes and was confined to the hall of origin. The hall sustained major fire and smoke damage.

One male adult was transported to OSF for smoke inhalation. Another person, before crews arrived, was taken to OSF for back injuries after the individual jumped from the second floor balcony to escape the fire.

Red Cross was called to the scene to provide temporary shelter for at least 10 people.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The estimated damage is up to $200,000.
