Flooding forces organizers to cancel Redneck Fishing Tournament in Bath

Local News

BATH, Ill. — Continued flood levels in Bath have forced organizers to cancel the 2019 Redneck Fishing Tournament.

The town is still dealing with high waters, and anticipates extensive cleaning and repairs after a rainy Spring.

Betty DeFord oversees the annual event. She says the tournament will be back in 2020. Sponsorships and raffle items already committed for this year will be carried over to next year.

DeFord started the tournament 14 years ago as an attempt to decrease the number of Asian Carp in the river. Participants go out on their boats and try to catch the fish with nets as they jump out of the water.
