Former Limestone student settles lawsuit alleging a teacher inappropriately touched her

Local News

BARTONVILLE, Ill. — A settlement has been reached between a Limestone High School graduate and a district teacher.

Alex Menefee, 19, said 60-year-old William Wood touched her inappropriately while she was a student. She claimed Wood has a long-standing history of making advancements toward female students, and she alleged he groped her several times in January of 2017 at the high school.

Menefee filed a lawsuit on Sept. 19, 2018 against the Limestone Community High School District No. 310 superintendent Allan Gresham, principal Jerolee Look and Wood.

Since the lawsuit came to light, more people have made allegations against the teacher and have notified Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell’s office.

Earlier this month a jury found Wood not guilty of inappropriately touching Menefee.

According to court records this settlement is in regards to the civil suit Menefee filed against Wood and members of the school district.

The details of the settlement have not been released.
