Former wrestling champion shares positive message with Peoria community

Local News

A former WWE wrestling star is helping communities around the country find themselves in faith and hope.

Marc Mero was the guest speaker at the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Thursday morning held at the Peoria Civic Center. As he spoke to the community, he explained that through his relationship with Christ, he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.

Later Thursday afternoon, he spoke to students at Richwoods and Peoria Christian School. Mero says that it takes a different approach with the younger generation, and that he hopes to remind students to take action when it comes to things like bullying, substance abuse, and suicide prevention.

“We have to address these issues, and there’s no better person than me. I’ve been through so much in my life. I understand what these kids are going through, and when they hear my story they feel like they’re not alone and they matter so much,” said Mero. “I am excited…this is my 12th year presenting, and every day is like this excitement that I have the opportunity to positively make a difference in somebody’s life today.”
