PEORIA, Ill. -- This Monday will mark Founder's Day for our parent company, Nexstar Media Group.
To celebrate, some of our staff helped at various organizations across Peoria and Bloomington. In Peoria, workers volunteered at a local food pantry and painted a veteran's home.
In the morning, volunteers worked with the Fuller Center to paint Army veteran Bill Keeter's home.
"I finally got help that I never got before. I worked all my life, and I never asked anyone for anything. And thanks to the VA I got this done," Keeter said.
Co-founder and treasurer of the Fuller Center Debbie Gaught says they've been able to help many veterans in the area who need extra help.
"He cannot get out here and do it himself and that's why were really glad to be able to come and help him," Gaught said.
Volunteers also worked at Sophia's Kitchen to bag and stock the pantry.
"We love to get our name out into the community and have other people come and see what we're all about," said assistant manager Courtney Curtis.
About one hundred people were served Friday at Sophia's Kitchen.
"It means a lot to me. I'm gonna start crying on you guys. If it wasn't for them, I couldn't feed him. And it helps us out when the food stamps run out. So, I appreciate what they do here for me and my grandson," said Kathy Babcock.
