BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Fast Stop gas station in Bloomington had a line of more than 20 cars Thursday afternoon, as customers rushed to take advantage of their low gas price.

How low, exactly? Only $3.99 a gallon.

“You’re seeing them all, they’re all in line. They sit out in the street in line,” said local driver, Jeanine Fisher.

The Evergreen FS Fast Stop located in southeast Bloomington off Morrissey Drive had the cheapest gas prices Thursday according to GasBuddy. $3.99 a gallon is about 50 cents cheaper than the area’s average.

Ron Eckhart said he’s glad to get some relief.

“When people are retired like I am you just got to watch where you put your finances and everything else is so expensive nowadays too,” Eckhart said. “It is very exciting, but like I say it needs to go down quite a bit more. Take it on down, that’s what I say.”

Some drivers reported waiting as long as 20 minutes to fill up their tanks. Bloomington native, James Childress said he would have waited as long as it took to get the cheap fuel.

“I had to wait about 5 minutes, but it’s worth the wait whether it’s 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 20 minutes for $3.99,” Childress said.

Evergreen FS says they’re able to price slightly lower than other stations, because they have less storage and it’s an unmanned gas station.

Statewide, gas prices continue to average around 5 dollars a gallon, however nationally gas prices continue to trend down. GasBuddy predicts a national average of 3.99 by mid-August.

Fast Stop is located at 1808 Morrissey Dr, Bloomington, IL 61704.

Prices could change throughout the day.
