PEORIA, Ill. — The annual Peoria Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast was Thursday morning and served as a way for the community to come together through faith.
This year’s keynote speaker was Lt. General William Boykin. He spent 36 years in the army, serving his last four years as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.
He is a war hero with a passion for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“It’s very exciting to be able to come and do something that includes the entire city, not just one sector of the community,” said Boykin. “I think it’s a real privilege to have been invited.
Boykin said he hopes others can follow his message.
“I want them to understand the concept of grace,” he said. “That is unmerited favor, that is nothing you have ever done that God will not forgive you for if you just simply ask him.”
