HANNA CITY, Ill., — Two women are safe thanks to the actions of more than a dozen members of the community.
The fire broke out on Smithville road in Hanna City Sunday morning.
Eric Arnold of Glasford, was on his way to bond with his children for Father’s Day when he happened to see the fire from the road and jumped into action.
He broke through a window to rescue the two inside.
“I think I was afraid,” Arnold said. “I think I was real afraid knowing that we only had you know minutes, but I don’t think that there’s a lot of thought going into it. …the average person standing there giving what they had in front of them knowing that she was only a couple feet away from us, that it just made sense to knock out the window and get her out.”
Arnold says several others around him were also helping the family.
He emphasized that he was not the only hero that day and that so many others deserve thanks.
