A Central Illinois family is celebrating after Governor Bruce Rauner signed a law mandating insurance coverage for minors’ hearing aids.

The Martin Family has two children who are hearing impaired. The family has had to pay $4,200 per child every three years for new hearing aids.

The law, signed Wednesday, requires insurance companies to cover new hearing aids every three years for those under 18.

Ramona Martin says her son was thrilled to be there to see Governor Rauner sign the bill. She adds that he now wants to push it to become a federal law.
