BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Green Top Grocery in Bloomington is being honored for raising a little over $300,000 in just 3 months, last year, to remain open.
On June 7th, the grocer was named Food Co-op Initiatives, 2019 Startup of the Year.
"We're just so thankful and so excited, and we can't wait to see where the future will take us," said Jenna Donald, Marketing Manager for Green Top Grocery. "We know that this is only the first step onto big things."
The award is only given to one organization, per year, for its ability to organize and educate the community as well as display great business planning.
Leaders say they are proud of the award, but they couldn't have done it without the community's help.
"We've had so many people in the community come together, and they've made the best decisions for us," said Donald. "They have put us on the right track. We are just going to continue providing wonderful local food, helping our local farmers donate to community organizations and getting out there."
Green Top Grocery is a community owned grocery co-op.
