After a long debate the Bloomington city council has voted to add an elevator at Grossinger Motors Arena.
The building does not currently comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Illinois Attorney General’s office has given the arena until the end of the year to find a solution to their problem.
“Unfortunately you are going to pay a little more than really I think we should,” said Russel Waller, Bloomington Facilities Manager, to the council. “But with the Attorney General’s compliance hanging over our heads we recommend that we move forward with it to avoid any potential future issues.”
After presenting the idea to the council the aldermen voted 5 to 3 in favor of constructing the new lift on the south side of the building.
The Interim City Manager and the City Clerk are expected to begin paperwork on the project immediately. The new elevator will cost the city $610,500.
