MORRIS, Ill. - The Grundy County Coroner's Office is seeking help in identifying a victim from a 1976 cold case.
On October 2, 1976, the body of a female was found in a ditch, located on the Western edge of rural Grundy County. The death was ruled as a homicide, with the victim having a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was described as a black woman, between 18-23 years old, with black hair, brown eyes, 5 feet and 7 inches in height, and weighed 150 pounds.
Thanks to the new technology of today, an illustrator was able to design an image (shown at the top) to help depict how the victim may have looked like at the time of her death.
"I've known about this unidentified female since I started in the Coroner's office in 1994 and it has troubled me that someone's loved one is buried here and was never identified," says Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.
Callahan states that he understands it's a long shot in hopes of identifying the body, even further of any hope of finding the killer.
If you have any information, regarding the identity of the victim, contact the Grundy County Coroner.
