Habitat for Humanity of Greater Peoria dedicates home to an Iraq War veteran

Local News

Iraq War veteran, Jeff Sikes, can now say he’s a home owner thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Peoria’s Habitat for Heroes program.

Sikes is an Army Specialist who served 150 combat missions during his time in Iraq. He now gets to call Peoria heights home.

Friends, family, and other veterans gathered for a special home dedication. Representative Darin LaHood was also there to support and witness this inauguration. He said this event was his favorite part of the week.

“It gives me a chance to rebuild and reconnect and then thrive. This is going to be my home. This is where I get to finally put back down my roots to where I once was and now I am back home,” said Sikes.

Representative LaHood said Sikes has been through a lot and he serves this.

“We are lucky to have him here. We got to continue to work with him and support him and make sure he has all the services that he needs. He was there for us in Iraq, we have to be there for him here,” said LaHood.
