The OSF Healthcare Cardiovascular Institute hosted the family friendly event, Heart of a Champion at the Louisville Slugger Sports complex.
Baseball fans got a chance to meet hall of famer, Rod Carew. Carew shared about his experience getting a heart transplant. The event was focused on heart disease prevention as well as the need for organ donations.
“Sometimes we as people get a little lazy in taking care of our bodies and putting things in our bodies that shouldn’t be there. I had a heart that was beating well and all of a sudden it just decided it didn’t want to go anymore,” said Carew.
Carew and his wife Rhonda launched The Heart 29 campaign to educate people about heart disease prevention. This, after he suffered from a heart attack in 2015. He said he plans to spend the rest of his life doing this .
