PEORIA, Ill. - More than 50 people gathered in the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza to raise awareness for child abuse.
Peoria County has over 1000 pending child abuse and neglect cases and this event was meant to let the community know that this is a big problem that needs community support.
"It's a time to give resources to people who may not know about child abuse and neglect prevention," said Stephanie Johnson, Executive Director of the Pediatric Resource Center. "Many of the people here work with children...this is just one of the things that the community is doing to try and help children and families do better."
The event was hosted by the Youth Services Network Panel. This is an annual event and according to some of the frontline officials more people seem to participate each year.
The Network Panel encourages everyone to wear blue for the remainder of the month in support of child abuse prevention.
