Heartland Community College is adding a new program to meet the growing demand for healthcare-related professionals.
Tuesday, the Heartland Board of Trustees announced they will be adding a medical assistant program to the college’s health and human services division.
Medical Assistants are healthcare professionals that are trained to work in a physician’s office or clinic. Students will now have the opportunity to learn news skills, such as patient prep, blood draws and specimen collection, insurance and billing, assisting physicians with procedures and other professional duties.
Leaders say medical assistants are high in-demand, and that this program will prepare students to be ready for the workforce after just one year of training.
The program will start in fall of 2019.
