UPDATE: Man arrested after fleeing Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies

UPDATE (9:15 p.m.) — A man was arrested after fleeing Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday.

According to a press release from the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Keith Goembel was arrested for multiple felony warrants and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Peoria County Sheriff’s Office deputies had attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Goembel at 5:35 p.m. on Freemont Street in Peoria County.

Investigators say Goembel fled from police and entered Tazewell County, and came to a stop after hitting a Peoria County Sheriff’s squad car near Route 29 and 98.

After a two-hour standoff, Goembel surrendered to the Central Illinois Emergency Response Team without injuries.

According to the press release, Goembel was booked into the Peoria County Jail.

UPDATE: Route 29 has been reopened after being blocked off between route 98 and Velde Ford due to a police presence Thursday.

According to our crew on the scene, a person was removed from a car by police, and the car was towed.

The route was blocked for over an hour and a half.

No information about the individual taken into custody has been released at this time.

TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. (WMBD) — Police are responding to an incident near routes 29 and 98 Thursday.

Police are currently blocking traffic on route 29 in the area.

Pekin, Marquette Heights, Metamora police, and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene.

WMBD also has a crew on the scene.
