A teaching assistant who works for East Peoria Community High School was arrested Thursday.

Police were called to the school around 10:00 a.m. on the report of a student who was battered by a teacher. Police spoke with the teacher and student, and saw video of the reported incident.

They then arrested the teacher, 30-year-old, Tyler Harrison, for battery. He was taken to the Tazewell County Jail.

Superintendent Marjorie Greuter says Harrison has been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Greuter adds the student stayed at school for the remainder of the day.
