PEORIA, Ill. — This week plenty of families came out to enjoy fun rides, events and good food at the Heart of Illinois Fair.
But as the saying goes all good things have to come to end. Organizers say the fair this year was great, but it was a little toasty.
“July in Central Illinois, you just never know,” said Erica Abenroth, Preisdent, Board of Directors for HOI Fair. “Some years its a been a little bit less, some years its been a little bit more, we just kind of roll with the flow.”
This year marked the 70th Anniversary fair and though much has changed throughout the years, organizers still love seeing the families.
“Seeing the kids faces when they walk in whether it’s looking at the rides,” said Abenroth. “Whether it’s playing games, whether it’s looking at the animals in our petting zoo or down in our livestock barns, just watching their faces and the interaction.”
This year the fair added some new twists. While the kids are having fun, adults got to join in the action as this was the first year the fair had wine tasting.
“We have different things to bring the children out but this is something nice that can bring the adults together they can enjoy the fun,” said Julie Trone with Wine Tasting at the Wine Shed. “This has been a nice week, despite the heat and it brought a lot of people out.”
Leaders believe this year was very successful, but they dont want you to forget all the people that helped make this possible.
“We have hundreds and hundreds of volunteers and wonderful sponsors that help us put on the fair,” said Abenroth. “Seeing them out here and enjoying the hard work that they put it, knowing that they had a good part in it and feeling pride in that, I liked watching that.”
