A local hospital is helping the community grow, all while assisting residents to live a healthier lifestyle.
For the last three years, volunteers and community nurses in the River City have been making WMBD central Illinois proud.
Those months of hard work were paid off on Thursday when OSF Health Care Saint Francis Medical Center introduced the New Garden of Hope to neighbors in Peoria. With a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the area, the garden will help serve residents physical and spiritual needs. Organizers hope the garden will be a positive light on the south side.
“We’re showing these little kids that we do care and I think they will take more pride in this area,” said Mary Ann Burge, Garden of Hope Founder. “They know that they can come here if they are afraid of something or just if their lonely.”
Gardeners already have plans to expand and are hoping more families will come out to enjoy the fresh vegetables and fruits.
