The Center for Prevention of Abuse says it’s received about a dozen cases of human trafficking within the last ten months.
Last year, the state of Illinois received over 200 cases.
And about 25 million people around the world have been a victim of human trafficking.
That’s why the Center for Prevention of Abuse is starting the conversation by raising awareness and offering service to try and combat it.
“Often times, they are not aware that they’re victims of trafficking until we explain what they dynamics look like,” says Sara Dillefeld, director of domestic violence and family-centered services at the Center. “After receiving our services, you can just see a change in their demeanor.”
