Icy conditions delay, cancel flights

PEORIA, Ill. - Local airports are dealing with delayed and canceled flights, due to icy conditions throughout Central Illinois.

Peoria International Airport Director Gene Olson says runways iced over around 4:30 pm, despite being pretreated with liquid de-icer. A plane landed and reported that there was no braking action.

Crews are continuing to work on the runways with de-icer and sand, and testing runways to see how long vehicles take to stop.

Several flights have been delayed and some are canceled. Currently, there is no timeline for when the runways will reopen.

According to Bloomington's Central Illinois Regional Airport's website, the airport is also experiencing delays and cancellations.
